How to Access and Use the VA Claim Status Tool with Screenshots (3-Step Process)
Accessing the VA Claim Status Tool is simple and requires only a secure VA.gov account.
Follow these simple steps to get started:
Step #1: Create or Log In to Your VA.gov Account
- Use Login.gov or ID.me, or DS Logon, to sign in.
- Note: DS Logon access to VA.gov ends after September 30, 2025.
- If you don’t already have an account, you can create one for free using Login.gov or ID.me.
Step #2: Go to the VA Claim Status Page
- Visit the VA Claim Status page on VA.gov.
Step #3: View Your VA Claim Status, Files, and Overview
- Once logged in, you can immediately see the status of your open and closed VA claims under the “Your claims, decision reviews, or appeals” section.
- Click the “Details” link for the current status of your VA claim.
- You’ll see “What you’ve claimed” along with individual tabs for Status, Files, and Overview.
- If your VA claim is closed, you’ll be able to download PDF copies of your VA rating decision letters.
