Want to hire a hero? July 25 is National Hire a Veteran Day, your reminder to connect with top-tier talent who’ve already proven they can lead, adapt, and deliver under pressure.

Each year, approximately 200,000 service members leave the military and step into civilian life. But many face an uphill battle when translating military skills into job titles.

National Hire a Veteran Day is a chance for employers to step up by recognizing the value veterans bring and actively working to hire and support them.

In this post, you’ll learn where the day came from, why veteran hiring matters, and key resources to support both veteran job listings and job search.

Summary of Key Points

  • National Hire a Veteran Day is observed on July 25th every year and raises awareness about the value of veteran talent in the civilian workforce.
  • Veterans bring leadership, adaptability, and proven experience that make them stand out in any role.
  • Veterans can access resources like job training, resume help, and education benefits to support their transition to civilian careers.

What is National Hire a Veteran Day?

NATIONAL HIRE A VETERAN DAY.

Created in 2017 by Marine Corps veteran Dan Caporale, National Hire a Veteran Day is observed every year on July 25th.

The annual day is all about action, encouraging businesses to consider veteran candidates and making it easier for them to transition into civilian jobs.

This day is also backed by legislation. The same year it launched, Congress passed the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans (HIRE Vets) Act of 2017, establishing the HIRE Vets Medallion Program to recognize employers who go above and beyond in veteran hiring, retention, and professional development.
