What Does ‘We Are Preparing Your Claim Decision Packet to be Mailed’ Mean?

If your VA claim status says, “We are preparing your claim decision packet to be mailed,” it means the VA is putting together your decision letter and they are preparing to mail it to you.  

This step is part of the Preparation for Notification stage of your VA claim, which means you’re close to receiving a decision on your VA disability claim.  

If you’re eligible for VA disability benefits, this letter will include your VA disability rating, the amount of your monthly payments, and the date your VA disability payments will start.  

You should receive your VA decision packet in the mail within 10 business days, but it could take longer.

The easiest way to check your VA claim is online, which will provide the most up-to-date information about your claim. 

You can sign in with your existing Login.gov, ID.me, DS Logon, or My HealtheVet account. If you don’t have any of these accounts, you can create a free Login.gov or ID.me account now. 

While it’s not guaranteed, you should see the latest updates of your VA claim quicker online than you would in the mail.
