A little about Walter

I am a proud Navy Vet, father of five, and g-pa of seven. I have been described as a 'Southern Gentleman' who is kind, caring, passionate, and easy-going, who would gladly give anyone the shirt off my back. My passion lies in helping people succeed. I am an avid outdoorsman and athlete. I love to coach and teach all things aquatics. Geaux Saints!

I have been fortunate to have incredible mentors throughout my life that taught me the value of hard work and the impact my actions have on people. I started coaching baseball and swimming at the age of 16 and realized then that I had a knack for helping others succeed. I was successful in the Navy as one of the top NAWSTP Program Managers and made my mark in the corporate world by safely exceeding revenue goals and team retention by listening and caring.

I chose to work at VA Claims Insider because I am passionate about helping others. VA Claims Insider is the best way for me to put my combined skills and passion to work in helping my fellow veterans.

I was 18 when I called my older brother (AW1 US Navy) to say I was done with college and either going to join the Navy or the Marines. It motivated him to fly me to NAS Memphis, where I enlisted, following in his footsteps (not the Marines). I served 12 years as an Acoustic Operator (AW) and instructor in the mighty P-3 Orion and NAWSPT Instructor at each base.

I absolutely loved my Navy career. I earned the Navy Achievement medal for having the top Water Survival Program in the Navy for two years. I am especially proud of earning my NATOPS 'BlueCard' instructor certification in the P-3 Orion alongside my older brother - a Navy 1st.

I injured my shoulder beyond repair and was found NPQ for flight - which meant an honorable/medical discharge after 12 years of service with a 20% disability rating in 1994. I was re-evaluated, and my rating went up to 50% in 2014.
